Afghanistan Questions

Why are our military forces in Afghanistan?  The politicians say it's because we must wipe out al Queda and Taliban terrorists, and in the next breath they say that only a few thousand of these terrorists are actually on Afghanistan soil. It sounds like we out number them by about six to one.  The terrorist encampments and training centers have shifted to Pakistan.

1.   Is Pakistan really one of our allies? It is certainly a thorn in the side of India. 

2.  Does anyone know exactly why Afghanistan is so important to America? It is not a threat to our interests in the area. It is an impoverished rural country with many underground riches yet to be developed.

3.  Are we trying to create a friendly country in order to tap their natural resources in the future?

4.  Afghanistan doe not have the power to threaten America. Neither can it threaten it's own neighbors. 

5.  If the terrorists have moved to Pakistan, why are we in Afghanistan?
