For the better part of a week we've been told that the younger of the two Boston bombers was found partly conscious and bloody in the bottom of a boat that was covered and resting at the side of a driveway. The homeowner noticed the cover wasn't right. He made it loose enough to look inside and he saw the the (unresponsive) bomber. There was blood on the interior of the boat. He knew immediately that he had discovered one of the (marathon) bombers and he called 911.
Police arrived quickly. The bomber had been armed when last seen and they had to consider him dangerous. They thought he may even have booby-trapped his body. There was no hurry. The bomber was trapped in the surrounded boat. Caution was required. They didn't wanted anyone else to get hurt. The police rounded up a robotic device that could be remote controlled and used it to rip and remove the boat cover. Then they threw stun grenades into the boat. Then they fired one or more rounds from their assault weapons into the boat. And only then did they finally attempt to lift the semi-concious bomber out of the boat. But did they really have to shoot him?
